Guess what is the most underrated skill of our time?
Pressing the pause button.
One thing we have collectively forgotten how to do culturally is the art of pressing the pause, rest, and refresh buttons of our lives. We are always on a knee-jerk reaction, responding to things without thinking.
Why is this necessary?
In this fast-paced world, we are constantly on the run. External forces outside ourselves grab our attention, making others the decision-makers of our lives.
Others continuously influence our lives and attention, thus reducing our agency and individuality.
When we constantly look externally, we waste our precious time, energy, and effort in that direction and may end up chasing or investing in their goals.
Pausing helps us review what is working and what is not, saving our resources for fruitful activities that serve us rather than drain us.
Returning to the drawing-room helps us assess the situation and makes us see the situation with a cleaner mind to start afresh.
It’s rejuvenating, refreshing and makes us more tolerant.
Pause.
